American Gothic

So Rhiannon and I have been waiting for this new Fox show to premiere, Point Pleasant. You know, the age old story of choice, morality, the fight between good and evil in a small town. The ads are about a mysterious girl is found floating in the ocean by a small town, she gets saved, then strange things start happening. Creepy darkness guys talk about her as the child of darkness. Christian imagery. Very gothic.

Then the damn show starts and it's an episode of the OC, but only one girl is evil instead of the whole cast. Whatever. One of the writers used to work for Buffy the Vampire Slayer so we'll see...I'll give it one more episode. The damn show just takes itself too seriously.

Watching it though sent me back to one of the best of the small town creepy shows, American Gothic. We watched this show religiously when it first aired...man...the little kid saying "Someone's at the door"...the evil sheriff who eventually went on to play Pa Brady...the fact that Shaun Cassidy created it...so much evil wrapped up in an hour.

American Gothic only aired for one season, and there is no recording available in DVD or VHS. However, if you go to Amazon.com, they've got the "enter your email address here to be informed of the release." Not only will this sign you up for information, it'll also count as a "vote" for the DVD to be released.

So sign up kids, I know I did.
